Whitehall Road Methodist Church is located in the middle of the Bensham area of Gateshead, close to the town centre. Opened in 1896, we remain a worshipping community where people of all ages feel glad to celebrate God’s goodness together and discover the Good News that Jesus came to bring.
We seek to give God praise and glory, whilst providing an atmosphere of reverence and friendliness, and a place where the wider community can feel accepted as they are, and find welcome, hope and friendship.
We have our own website where you will find further information.
Our Sunday morning service at 10:45 begins with all-age worship for the first part of the service, then the children and young people leave for their own activities in the Sunday Club. Our evening service commences at 6:00.
Fellowship and Friendship
We have mixed and women’s fellowship groups, covering a wide variety of social topics and interests, always accompanied by refreshments and friendly chat!
Our Girls Brigade company is the third oldest in the world, and continues to entertain, inform, and encourage girls and young women in their faith, and explain the continuing relevance of Jesus Christ in their lives.
We hold a free coffee morning every Tuesday which is very popular with the local community.
We have a large hall with a stage and adjoining rooms which are heavily used during the week by a variety of community groups, such as crafts, dance and slimming classes, charities, a residents’ association and a radio club. We continue to be an active member and presence in Bensham. Both the hall and church are easily accessible to disabled people.
