Foodbank Update

Most of our circuit churches have been collecting items for the Gateshead Foodbank for some time now. We have a Distribution Point within our circuit at Blaydon which serves the needs of many in our communities. This runs every Friday afternoon from 1:30-3:30pm.

The Blaydon Distribution point has been running for 3 and a half years now and sadly the demand for this facility has not reduced over that time but increased.

In 2015 we received 216 referrals which equated to 642 people fed. This was a 32% increase on 2014 In 2016 we received 289 referrals feeding 741 people (382 adults and 359 children), a 25% increase on 2015. In addition, Trinity Methodist Church where the Foodbank is hosted, has set up a second hand clothes and uniform bank due to the demand. At Christmas, the local community were also able to send out 27 Christmas Dinner hampers to people in our communities, feeding 128 people.

This Foodbank ministry is replicated all over the country and is a vital service to so many people.

Thank you to all who donate, Deacon Tracey Hume.
